Project Y - Introduction
I bought this 1967 Cutlass in 1988 from a good friend of mine. It had been
sitting in a barn for about 15 years, and was covered in dirt.

I bought the car for $400, and drove it home. It had a 330 4-barrel, and a Jetaway
transmission. The Jetaway is the Buick/Olds/Pontiac version of the Powerglide.
My sister and I spent an entire day cleaning the car, and underneath all that
dirt was a beautiful Candy Apple Red paint job. We pulled out the entire interior,
and spent a day cleaning it. What we thought was a green interior was actually
green mold, and under all that mold was a perfectly preserved black interior.

I ended up dropping in a 455, a Turbo-350, and a 12-bolt rear end with 4.88 gears.
My father and I put in an aluminum trunk and a fuel cell. Eventually, the crank
bent, and it was time to build a new engine. So, I bought a bunch of expensive
parts from Mondello's and took the engine to Brown Automotive in Niles, MI.
And then the car sat for about 7 years because I had no money. Eventually I got
a real job and finally had some money to finish the project.
