Selection and Ordering

I may as well get my only real complaint about Jiffy-Tite off of my chest:

Their catalog and part numbering system are a bit difficult to figure out.

When I was first putting together my list of items to order, I had to spend
a bit of time figuring out what the correct part numbers were. They have
some examples on each page of the catalog, and a chart to figure out what part
you need on page 5. The catalog is awfully small, too - 6 pages total.
Eventually, I got their part numbering system figured out, though.

They do have an email link on their website for technical help. The folks
that answer those emails were both knowledgable and courteous when answering
the few questions I had.

Download the catalog here.

To be fair, their catalog may be only intended for distributors, and that may
explain the lack of detail for the general public. Russell Performance is also
distributing this product, so perhaps they will come out with a more in-depth catalog.

* UPDATE * I recently spoke with the folks at Jiffy-Tite, and they have a new
catalog in the works that promises to be more user-friendly and contain more information.

So, what did I order?

The key piece that I purchased was one of their transmission kits, part number 200T1

This is a nice prefabbed kit that they offer. It consists of two twelve inch
braided -6 lines with 1/4" NPT connectors (left side of photo above), one plug
assembly and one socket assembly (right side of photo). Also included are two
1/4" NPT to 1/8" NPT adapters, for you Powerglide users. One nice thing about
the plug/socket assemblies is that if you make your lines correctly (plugs at
each end of one line, sockets at each end of the other), you will never have to
worry about getting the lines mixed up. Also, since many radiators use an
1/8" or 1/4" NPT inlet, you could also use this assembly at the radiator (or
adapt your radiator fittings to one of these sizes).

Here is a list of all the items I purchased. I ordered them from Summit Racing
because at the time of purchase, Jeg's did not carry the Jiffy-Tite line. I didn't
compare prices with PAW because I live in the midwest and was not willing to wait
for shipping from California.

I ordered the 1/8" NPT fittings because I decided to leave a small section of my hard lines in place, which you'll see photos of later. The last two items on the list are for making a quick-connect fitting at my carburetor, also covered later. Unfortunately, the fittings are only available in black and gold anodized. Since just about every racer uses red and blue fittings, there will be a bit of a color clash. Perhaps in the future they will make more colors available. As you can see, these items are a little bit more expensive than the equivalent "standard" AN fittings we are all used to. Is it worth the extra cost? Read on to find out!
